Composer

John Rotar (b. 1995) is a Brisbane-based composer and conductor described by Limelight magazine as a “young, talented and innovative composer.” His diverse body of work spans orchestral, choral, chamber, solo, and experimental idioms — from big-band charts and folk-inflected quartets to ambient and Gregorian-inspired works — always driven by expressive depth and communicative clarity. His music frequently engages with the history and institutions of music while seeking to resonate emotionally with listeners.

Growing up in a musical family, Rotar began piano studies at age six and composition at age eight. At twelve, his first orchestral work was performed by the Bundaberg Youth Orchestra, launching a prolific and internationally performed composing career.
